Whether you and your longtime partner are headed out on the town after being stuck in the house for a year, or you’re on your way to meet that cutie you matched with on your dating app for the first time, finding that perfect date night outfit can be a daunting task. Do you pick your go-to favorite outfit? Keep things comfortable and casual? Dress to impress with something you’ve been waiting for the excuse to wear forever? The decisions are endless! To give you a little guidance, I’ve put together some great date looks for whatever the vibe might be.
Dinner and a Show
I can’t think of a better way to welcome dating back into your life than by returning to this tried-and-true classic. Two of my favorite things in the world are eating food and watching movies, and if I can do that with someone I’m excited to be around, even better! This is a perfect way to cool off during the hot days ahead, as both restaurants and theaters will have that sweet, sweet AC, which allows for an excellent opportunity to show off your style with some layers. A fun jacket, cardigan, or kimono is a great way to step out of your comfort zone and try out a crop top or form-fitting dress! The added layer will help you to feel less exposed when trying something new.
A Picnic In The Park
If you want to squeeze every last drop out of summer, a walk in the park is the perfect way to soak up the rest of the season! Grab your red and white checkered blanket and find a good spot to enjoy some sun, shade, and fantastic people-watching with your date.
Hot tip: if you’re anything like me, wearing a dress in the summer can be both a blessing and a curse. The breeze is a welcome respite from the heat, but when my sweaty thighs start to rub together it’s a recipe for disaster! That’s why I made sure to add a great pair of bike shorts to this outfit. I’m not kidding when I tell you that this is an absolute game-changer—just toss them on under your dress and your thighs will thank you because you’ll be feeling great and looking amazing all day long!
Be A Tourist In Your Hometown
One of my favorite things to do is explore new places, especially in my own backyard! Whether you’re with your spouse or meeting someone new, this can be a great way to get to know your hometown in a way you haven’t before. Book a cute boutique hotel or Bed and Breakfast so you can experience the city like you’re passing through for a weekend. Stop by some one-of-a-kind museums or shops (like the Teeny Statue of Liberty Museum in my own city of Indianapolis), or use a website like Atlas Obscura to find unique and interesting sites near you. The possibilities are endless and I bet you’ll find plenty of new things to love about where you live! Just make sure you dress comfortably for a day of walking!
Casual Drinks
Sometimes the simplest plan is the best one—going out for casual drinks is always a great choice for a first date or a fiftieth. This is a perfect opportunity to be a little more daring with your outfit. Casual doesn’t have to mean boring! Toss on that bold top or the flirty skirt you haven’t had an excuse to wear. Grab the chic cocktail dress or the fun jumpsuit that’s been in your closet for a while. Whatever your look, the low-pressure, low-movement environment is ideal for stepping out of your comfort zone and wearing something you love.
Build A Blanket Fort At Home
If you’re not ready to hit the town just yet, that’s okay! You can still create a special date night right from home. Get in touch with your inner child by inviting your cutie over to build a blanket fort and watch movies in your pajamas. This easy breezy plan will allow for some quality bonding time to get to know each other while staying in the comfort of your home. Whether you’re feeling comfy and casual loungewear or a sleek and sophisticated chemise, a blanket fort and pajama party will certainly be a date to remember!
